The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will promote a set of actions within the framework of the ISO 20121 certification, including energy self-sufficiency and the improvement of biodiversity.

At Forever Green, we are pleased to share the sustainable initiatives of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya within the framework of the 24 Hours of Catalonia Motorcycling. Under the slogan “Driving for a better future” and with a management based on the 3C philosophy (awareness, commitment and coherence), the Circuit promotes comprehensive actions in the social, economic and environmental fields, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

The Circuit has the largest public self-consumption photovoltaic installation in Catalonia. With 1,239 solar panels in the Main Grandstand, it generates 33% of the energy it consumes. In addition, 1,080 panels have been added to the roof of the pit building, producing an additional 0.46 GWh annually. This will allow 50% of the energy consumed during the day to be produced in-house, marking an important step towards energy self-sufficiency and decarbonisation.

The Circuit implements various actions to achieve the Zero Waste objective:

– Sustainable catering:
The catering points use reusable cups and participate in the Stop Food Waste campaign to raise awareness about food waste. The Circuit’s restaurant offers healthy and km0 food, reducing CO2 emissions from transport.
– Plastic reduction: Drinking water fountains have been installed in different areas to reduce the use of single-use plastics.

– Circular waste economy:
The public areas are equipped with yellow drums for plastic containers and brown drums for food scraps and biodegradable utensils. Since 2008, thanks to the collaboration with ECOEMBES, 739,876 kg of packaging and cardboard have been recovered.

Given the current context of drought in some areas of Catalonia, the Circuit promotes responsible water consumption, limiting its use to very specific purposes during the event.

The Circuit also focuses on social engagement, donating leftover food to a local soup kitchen. Since 2017, more than 18,000 kg of food have been donated.

The Circuit manages a forest area of more than 25 hectares in collaboration with BOSCAT, promoting biodiversity and the training of young people at risk of social exclusion. In addition, educational posters have been installed to raise awareness among viewers about conservation actions.

To encourage the responsible use of resources, the Circuit awards the Trophy to the most Sustainable team. Teams must demonstrate their sustainable actions through social media to participate in this recognition.

Tickets to attend the 24 Hours of Catalonia Motorcycling are available on the Circuit’s website. They are sold in the form of a two-day pass (Saturday and Sunday) for €10 (plus €2 management fee). Fans will be able to access the Circuit through gate 3 on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. and park in the H2 car park. The doors will be open until the end of the race on Sunday at 12 noon, with access to the Main, G, F and T10 grandstands.

At Forever Green, we applaud the actions of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which demonstrate how sporting events can lead the way towards a more sustainable future.
