The green and white club is the first Andalusian team to register its Carbon Footprint in the Andalusian Emissions Offsetting System of the Andalusian Regional Government.
Real Betis Balompié has been the first Andalusian sports team to register its Carbon Footprint (CF) in the SACE registry (Andalusian Emissions Compensation System) of the Junta de Andalucía.
The Club verdiblanco is the first national team to certify its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions for the last three seasons.
The Junta, through Carmen Crespo, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development (CAGPDS), has recognized in a ceremony at the Benito Villamarín Stadium, together with Ángel Haro, president of Real Betis, and members of the green and white board, the great effort of the Club and its environmental achievements.
The Club verdiblanco also expressed its commitment to the environment by creating the Forever Green sustainability platform in October 2021.
A project that seeks the power of sport to join allies in the fight against the climate crisis.
In just its first year of life, 50 entities have joined, 50 countries have been reached and another fifty actions have been carried out.
With this registration in the Andalusian Offsets System, Real Betis is committed to reducing its GHG emissions by 10%, establishing the 2018-2019 period as a reference, and the 2024- 2025 period as a target year.
In order to make this reduction possible, the Club is committed to implement a series of measures such as the replacement of natural gas boilers for air conditioning/ACS with solar panels; the purchase of electricity with GdO (Guarantees of Renewable Origin); installation of photovoltaic solar panels; replacement of lighting fixtures with more efficient ones; promotion of car sharing and sustainable mobility; as well as awareness campaigns to reduce water consumption and the implementation of water saving devices, among others.
Carmen Crespo has congratulated the club “for a pioneering initiative in Andalusia” in which they will have the help of the Andalusian Government.
“Not only should we carry out actions against climate change, but it is also important to set an example for future generations”, said the councilor, adding that this project will help “from this moment on, the club’s subscribers become more aware of how we can help the environment and fight against climate change”.
During this presentation, Haro highlighted the work that the entity is doing for the environment.
“We are very proud to have achieved this great achievement that is in line with the values and commitment to society that Real Betis Balompié has. We would also like to thank the entities that have allied with Forever Green to work together in this climate challenge such as Climate Neutral Now, The Climate Pledge or LaLiga. We hope that this inscription that we are presenting today will serve as an inspiration for Andalusian, national and international institutions”.
