The verdiblanco club, through its environmental sustainability platform Forever Green, has teamed up with the social and environmental startup Gravity Wave to carry out social awareness campaigns regarding marine care and various actions to transform plastic waste from the Mediterranean Sea.

Real Betis and its sustainability platform Forever Green join forces with Gravity Wave, a social and environmental startup, to launch social awareness campaigns regarding marine care and various actions to transform plastic waste from the Mediterranean Sea.

The verdiblanco club will approach the sea for the first time, carrying out awareness campaigns in collaboration with Gravity Wave. These campaigns will involve collecting plastic waste and fishing nets from the seabed and Spanish coasts alongside traditional fishermen who have also joined the startup’s great work. This waste will be recycled and transformed into new valuable products that Real Betis and Gravity Wave will announce soon.

“At Gravity Wave, we are particularly excited about the start of this alliance with Real Betis, one of Spain’s most important teams, as well as the national benchmark club in terms of sustainability. It is an ambitious and pioneering project in the sector that will place the protection of our seas and oceans at the forefront and we hope it becomes a replicable and inspiring example, not only for the football sector but also for the world of sports in general,” said Álvaro García Artiñano, Alliances Manager at Gravity Wave.

Meanwhile, Rafael Muela, manager of the Real Betis Foundation, stated, “By joining Gravity Wave, we expand our reach and for the first time, we will carry out actions that take care of our seas. It is very important to join initiatives like these that work to reduce the impact of plastics in the sea. We want to raise awareness among the large social mass formed by our fans about the importance of taking care of the oceans.”

Forever Green

Forever Green has been working for over two years in the fight against climate change, an effort that has made the entity one of the most environmentally committed football clubs in the world and the most sustainable team in LaLiga according to a study by Holaluz. Additionally, Brand Finance recently ranked Real Betis as the second most sustainable European club due to initiatives like its Forever Green program. Since the inception of Forever Green, 88 actions have been developed, such as clean-ups of natural spaces, the installation of a fleet of scooters and electric bicycles for club employees, as well as promoting their use by fans through discounts and recycling and awareness campaigns. Forever Green has gained worldwide recognition, reaching 598 million people and reaching 75 countries. The Betis environmental program has been featured in 195 media outlets.

Gravity Wave

Gravity Wave is a social impact company, focused on circular economy and environmental awareness, driven to solve one of humanity’s greatest challenges: plastic pollution in seas and oceans.
Through collaboration with traditional fishermen and more than 100 ports, we clean plastic from the seabed and coasts, and then transform it into a material 100% connected with the sea, with which we manufacture furniture and other valuable products for society.

We know that we cannot do this alone. Therefore, we collaborate with companies and other entities, giving them the opportunity to be actively involved in the solution and engage in the #Plasticfreeoceans movement.
