The green-and-white club has managed, for the third consecutive year, to calculate its business carbon footprint generated during the 2021 season, register it in the Register of Carbon Footprint, Compensation and CO2 Absorption Projects, and obtain the official seal (‘Calculation’) issued by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITERD).
Real Betis Balompié is the first LaLiga football club to obtain the ‘Calculation 2021’ seal from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge.
El club verdiblanco obtiene esta certificación tras inscribir su último inventario de gases de efecto invernadero (huella de carbono corporativa) el Registro de huella de carbono, compensación y proyectos de absorción de CO2 que entrega el Gobierno de España.
For the calculation of Real Betis’ environmental impact, the sporting activities carried out at the Benito Villamarín Stadium and the Luis del Sol Sports City have been taken into account, as well as the emissions from both internal and external transport and the green-and-white club’s water consumption.
In this way, Real Betis Balompié – through its Forever Green Sustainability Programme – continues to make progress in its strategy towards being the most sustainable football club on the planet with the aim of reducing GHG emissions by 10% from the 2018/2019 season to the 2024/2025 season.
After receiving the ‘Calculation’ seal, the Club is already working on the implementation of CO2eq reduction measures, with the aim of mitigating its contribution to global warming and achieving the ‘I reduce’ seal.
This recognition requires a great effort, as it requires the organization to demonstrate the reduction in emissions achieved in the last 4 years of study.
This seal is a great recognition of those companies that are committed to the environment, reducing their emissions and fighting against climate change.
Since the 2018/2019 season, the first in which Real Betis Balompié measured its environmental impact, it has managed to reduce its carbon footprint by 35.56%, so the entity is fully aware of the importance of continuing on this path and heading towards carbon neutrality
Rafael Muela, manager of the Real Betis Balompié Foundation and spokesman for Forever Green, pointed out that “this seal shows Real Betis’ commitment to accelerate the reduction of CO2 emissions in our activities and to continue developing our Forever Green environmental sustainability programme”.
The work of Real Betis Balompié in the fight against climate change is being recognised by different organisations around the world.
It has recently been selected as the most sustainable football club in LaLiga according to a study carried out by Holaluz.
The green-and-white entity also leads the Spanish LaLiga standings in environmental terms with its Forever Green project according to the OBS Business School.
Since the birth of Forever Green, just by making electric scooters available to workers, the club claims to have saved 8,400 car journeys and 550 kg of CO?
to the atmosphere.
Of the 70 measures that have already been implemented, those that will be applied in the new Sports City stand out.
The facilities will have a bioclimatic design, solar control, natural ventilation, efficient systems for reducing consumption and reusing water.
