Monaco leads maritime sustainability with new Sea Index CO2 tool for superyachts over 25 meters

At Forever Green, we are excited to share the advances in maritime sustainability led by Monaco. The Superyacht Eco Association has developed the pioneering Sea Index CO2 tool, designed specifically for superyachts over 25 meters. This tool, along with its independent certification, has been recognized with the prestigious Capenergies label, highlighting its innovation in mitigating the environmental impact and carbon footprint of large yachts.

The Sea Index CO2, formulated within the framework of the Yacht Club of Monaco’s “Monaco, Capital of Advanced Sailing” initiative, represents an important step forward in maritime sustainability. It is the first tool to measure energy intensity and compare CO2 emissions between superyachts over 25 meters, using data provided by manufacturers and specialized teams on board. This initiative reflects Monaco’s commitment to leading the yachting industry towards a greener future.

The Capenergies cluster has been instrumental in promoting innovative projects and accelerating the Energy Transition. With a network of almost 520 members, including industrial players, SMEs, startups, research institutions, training centers, local authorities and investors, Capenergies specializes in energy and its various applications. This cluster maintains links with more than 300 partners in France and Europe, acting as a nexus for innovation and collaboration in the energy sector.

The Capenergies label, awarded by a select committee of 12 members, underlines the innovation of the Sea Index CO2, the progress made by the Superyacht Eco Association since 2020 and its potential to generate significant economic and environmental benefits. This tool is not only praised for its technological ingenuity, but also recognized for its ability to transform environmental management in the nautical industry.

“We are honoured to receive the Capenergies seal, which validates our efforts to bring sailing towards a more sustainable future,” said Bernardo de Alessandri, Vice President of the Superyacht Eco Association and Secretary General of the Yacht Club of Monaco. “This recognition inspires us to continue to develop neutral tools that help boating stakeholders make informed decisions when buying, selling and chartering yachts.”

At Forever Green, we celebrate this achievement and join the commitment of Monaco and the Superyacht Eco Association in their mission to promote more sustainable practices in sailing. Together, we continue to demonstrate that the power of sport and innovation can be a transformative force in the fight against climate change.
